What does a typical day in the life of an Acquisition/Contracting Lead look like?
Provides oversight of multi-million-dollar contracts to Contracting Officers Representatives (CORs), Contract Officers, other Government personnel and Contract Support in order to facilitate, monitor and track all Military Interdepartmental Purchase Requests (MIPR), Invoices, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and Other Direct Costs (ODCs).
What three skills do you think are essential to fulfil your role?
I think the three skills that are essential to fulfill my role are; Adaptability; Positive Attitude; Attention to detail; Listening … Self-Management
What do you like best about working at WBD?
Collaboration – we’re all in it in support of the mission; Work-Life Balance; the Culture – we have a diverse group, which makes for better collaboration and results; Encouragement – I like and feel valued for what I bring to WBD.
How do you think current teleworking will impact the future of work?
As I heard on a news program, the many millions of Americans teleworking has not brought about the fall of the Western civilization – lol. With the corona-virus pandemic and now recent variants, I think that working remote is here to stay; in one form or fashion or another. Additionally, I think COVID-19 has dissolved the work-from-home “stigma”. Now, we’re all working remote effectively; morale is up; clients/customers are pleased.
Describe WBD in three words
The three words I would use to describe WBD are, [we] Make Better Decision – couldn’t resist. Connected/Inclusive; Intentional; Evolving
Why did you choose WBD and what makes you stay?
I was coming from one firm, a bigger firm, that happened to lose the contract, to WBD. I didn’t know much about firm, but knew it was progressive and intentional in their approach. I saw an opportunity as a way to contribute to a forward-thinking company and I felt (knew) that my skills would be well-suited to fit the firm and the position.
What motivates you?
The things that motivate me are completing a difficult project and seeing it through to the end; learning new things; the end of a work-day
What do you do outside of work? What inspires you?
I’m an Army Bratt; adaptable to most any situation. I love to travel. I’ve been “across the pond” as an adult. I spent my rudimentary years growing in Germany (Augsburg) and Italy (Florence). I came back to the states when I was 10. I love tennis; I play competitively. I also give back by teaching and volunteering at the City Open Tennis Tournament.
The young inspire, with their creativeness and simplistic approach to life. The old seniors inspire me. I think of my grandparents whom have worked hard all their lives and I have never heard them complain.
What advice do you have for new WBD employees?
Have Faith! Get-up. Dress-up. Show-up. Personal mantra of mine. Along with, finish each day and be done with it! You’ve done all you could; some blunders have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day!
Who has been your most influential professional mentor?
My father, COL William RS Peters; RET, Deceased my mother (nurse) and both my grandfathers (famer & laborer). They instilled in me the value of hard work and zest for life.
