Employee Spotlight – Lauren Carter

February 4, 2022

What does a typical day in the life of a Lead Consultant look like?

I help lead a multi-million-dollar project aimed at assisting the government client with renewing intergovernmental agreements for telecom and IT-related services. My typical work day involves communicating with numerous government stakeholders on project milestones and assisting government customers with processing agreements on the Department of Treasury’s new G-Invoicing Online Platform.

What three skills do you think are essential to fulfill your role?

Communication – this project has entailed communicating with over 2,600 stakeholders, so communication skills are key to this role!

Patience – my role has entailed working with the Department of Treasury’s new G-Invoicing online platform, and with change there is a need for patience in learning the platform and being patient as others learn, too.

Positivity – I think any role requires positivity, as your attitude in the face of challenges really shapes your response to the challenge.

What do you like best about working at WBD?

I really like my teammates – I work with such a friendly, intelligent, innovative, compassionate, and communicative group a people. It’s incredible how much we can all rely upon each other to fulfill a task and offer moral support for any challenges we face.

How do you think current teleworking will impact the future of work?

I think the widespread telework environment that COVID-19 generated made governments and corporations realize how effective employees can be in their roles while teleworking. I anticipate the telework environment to increase, with leaders offering their employees more flexibility in schedules once it’s safe for employees to go back to the office.

Share an example of when you saw a WBD core value embodied or which resonates with you must & why? (core values: collaborative approach, relentless spirit, entrepreneurial spirit)

One of the WBD core values I admire most is the collaborative approach – WBD employees are always looking out for one another to lend a hand whenever they can. I really admire my teammates for our ability to communicate our work load and any difficulties we’re experiencing so that we can all work together as a team to get a task done as efficiently as possible.

Why did you choose WBD and what makes you stay?

I chose WBD because the firm’s partners gave me the impression that they appreciate their employees and value innovative thinking. I’m still at WBD because the firm’s leaders still hold true to this impression in all that they do for their employees.

What’s been your most memorable moment at WBD so far?

I think my most memorable moment has to be our summer event. It was the first in-person event since COVID-19, and it was really great to see coworkers I hadn’t seen in over a year, and meet in-person the coworkers who joined the company during the pandemic. I appreciated the firm’s ability to get everyone together, and how they invested in what turned out to be a really fun, meaningful event.

What motivates you? (Or – What’s your ‘Why’?)

Being an agent of change motivates me – specifically, in the way that I can communicate with our government client and its customers to achieve a common goal. I love presenting, training, demonstrating, writing, and doing anything I can to help our client understand and achieve a strategic objective. And that usually involves working with multiple stakeholders – so I enjoy that thrill of getting so many different stakeholders on the same page and working towards the same goal.

What do you do outside of work? What inspires you?

I enjoy acting and engage in a biweekly virtual workshop with actors and actresses across the United States. I also enjoy playing the violin and writing fictional short stories!

What advice do you have for new WBD employees?

Given that the telework environment undoubtedly must make it hard to meet people at WBD, I’d say attend as many of WBD’s events as you can. I’d also say don’t be afraid to reach out to people and introduce yourself, because the people here are some of the nicest, most intelligent people I’ve come across so far in my career.
